thesis
posted on 2015-05-26, 00:00 authored by Tyler Porten

In both Japan and America, “otaku” is a term that carries varied meanings. It can describe those who enjoy watching anime and playing games, as well as those who attempt to legally marry fictional video game characters. How did otaku culture develop, and what does it mean to be an otaku today?

OTAKU: A DIGITAL MANGA aims to understand the otaku culture of Japan by analyzing manga, anime, and games, as well as those who produce and consume it. We deliver our research findings in the form of an original digital manga.
