Description

The data contained in the adjoining file are derived from the British Cold Study (BCS), a prospective viral challenge study conducted from 1993-1996 among healthy volunteers ages 18-54 (mean 33.6 years; SD 10.6). BCS received primary funding from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID R01 AI23072, Social Support and Susceptibility to Infection) and supplemental funding from the Office of Naval Research (ONR N00014-88-K-0063). These data are being made available as part of the Common Cold Project, a data aggregation project supported by a grant from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH R01 AT006694-01, Social Ties and Health: Aggregating Data from Five Viral-Challenge Trials). BCS study documentation including details of measures used to collect the data and how variables were created can be obtained from the Common Cold Project website (www.cmu.edu/common-cold-project)
